DUANE E. HALVERSON
November 30, 1931 - August 25, 2007

Duane Eldon Halverson was born November 30, 1931 in Canton, Minnesota to Sabert and Carol (Johnson) Halverson.  He graduated from the Canton High School in 1949.  He served two years in the United States Army, stationed in Germany.  Duane attended Winona State University both before and after his military service.  He pitched baseball in the 1950’s for many community teams in Southeastern Minnesota.

He worked more than thirty years as a chef and restaurant manager in many supper clubs and restaurants in Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Minnesota.  When he retired he had sixteen years of work (and some fishing) at the Burntside Resort and Supper Club in Ely, Minnesota.

He had a great fondness for dogs. A faithful companion for him all the years in Ely was his dog, Charlie.

Duane was a member of the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church and a faithful member of the National Old Reel Collectors Association (O.R.C.A.) for 25 years or more.  He enjoyed attending many conventions each year and was blessed to have friends to assist him in traveling.

He was very attached to his ten nieces and nephews and his many great nieces
and nephews.   The little ones always gave their first hello kiss and hug to
Great Uncle Duane.

Duane passed away Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel at the age of 75.

Duane leaves to morn his passing, his mother Carol of Canton; three brothers Daryl (Marion) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Donald of Houston, Texas, and Darwin (Inez) of Rochester.  He was preceded in death by his father Sabert; his sister Delayne Halverson Long, and a niece Sharon Long.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Reverend Mary Waudby officiating.  Burial will be in the Garness Cemetery.  Visitation will be

4 – 7 P.M. Wednesday, August 29 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and also one hour prior to services at the church.
