Claude was born October 1, 1921 in rural Hesper, Iowa to Carl and Dora
(Wold) Anderson. He attended school in Hesper and graduated from the Mabel High School in 1939. On August 2, 1947 he was united in marriage to Irene Bacon at the Methodist Parsonage in Mabel. He drove truck hauling milk and farmed in the Hesper and Mabel areas. Claude was a member of the Mabel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, and making hook rugs, but especially enjoyed working with both riding and draft horses. In
1981 they retired and moved into Mabel. In 2002 Claude became a resident at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
Claude passed away Monday, August 20, 2007 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel at the age of 85.
Claude is survived by his wife Irene of Mabel; two children Linda (Dan) Hoyt of Lincoln, Nebraska and Greg (Jean) of Duluth, Minnesota; two grandchildren Richie and Kelsey Anderson; a sister Beatrice Anderson of Mabel; and a brother Maynard of Alexandria, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the Mabel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeanne Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Mabel Public Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
