SIGRID WOLD
May 1, 1918 - November 15, 2007

Sigrid Wold passed away peacefully at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home on November 15, 2007.  She was born on May 1,1918  in Caledonia, Minnesota to parents Peter and Celia Engen. Sigrid grew up on a farm south of Caledonia with her sister and three brothers.  She was baptized and confirmed at Willmington Lutheran Church.
Sigrid graduated from Caledonia High School in 1936 and then went to work for the sister of the Mayo brothers in Rochester, Minnesota.  She saw the Mayo doctors, Will and Charlie, often, when they visited their sister.
Sigrid attended college in LaCrosse, WI for one year.  She met and fell in love with Glennis Wold of Spring Grove, MN.  They married June 14, 1940 and settled on the farm they still own east of Mabel.  Sigrid was a constant support for her loving husband, Glennis in all aspects of farming, business, and family life throughout their 67 years together.
Sigrid was an excellent seamstress.  She often won sewing contests as a
youth in 4-H.   As an adult she entered the “Make it with Wool” contest for
12 years. She displayed her many creative talents through quilting and various crafts.  Along with Glennis she shared her love of flowers and talent in numerous floral arrangements.
Sigrid was always looking for ways to contribute in some helpful way.  She volunteered in various ways at Mabel First Lutheran Church where she was a member all her married life.  Other volunteer activities included 4-H leader, Green Lea Manor volunteer,  and  board member at Camp Winnebago in Caledonia, MN.
Traveling was a passion of Sigrid’s.  Even with a growing family she arranged trips all over the U.S. that have left many fond memories for her children. Glennis and Sigrid  traveled to Norway,  cruised to Alaska and the Caribbean, crossed the Panama Canal, and caravanned in Mexico. They enjoyed
23 winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they owned a mobile home and continued a full life of hiking, biking, swimming, volunteering, and their many creative activities.  But Sigrid would probably agree her most important contribution was helping Glennis raise their four children.
Sigrid is survived by her husband Glennis, son Keith Wold and his wife Kay of Corwith, Iowa, daughter Julianne Allen and husband Noel of San Diego, California, daughter Nina Tortelli and husband Ruggero of Sarasota, Florida, son Beau and wife Gayle of Eleva, Wisconsin, grandchildren, Kirsten, Sarah, Peter, Sheri, Maaren, and Celia as well as 8 great-grandchildren, brother Arne Engen and wife Marge, brother Stanley Engen and wife Eleanor, sister Arliene Tollefsrud, and sister-in-law Betty Engen.  Sigrid was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Pierce Engen.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Curtis Fox officiating.  Burial will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 - 7 Monday, November 19 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers Sigrid’s expressed wishes were that memorial donations may be made in her name to: The Salvation Army Homeless Missions or to the WELCA flower fund of Mabel First Lutheran Church, 202 N. Oak St, PO Box 395, Mabel MN 55954.
