Robert "Rob" Jonak

May 7, 1964 - October 7, 2026

Robert Scott Jonak
Formerly of Grand Island, Nebraska
Born May 7, 1964 – Died October 7, 2026

Robert Scott Jonak was a man whose warmth and humor left an immediate mark on everyone he met. He was quick to share a joke, offer a comforting word, or reach out to someone who needed support. A deeply caring individual, Rob had an extraordinary way of making people feel seen, valued, and at ease. His kindness, curiosity, and quiet strength shaped the lives of those around him, leaving a legacy of love, integrity, and countless treasured memories.

Rob was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Lawrence Francis Jonak and Evelyn Shirley (Dragvold) Jonak. He was a lifelong learner; attending Peterson/Rushford grade school and Grand Island high school, Western Wisconsin Technical Institute, and later graduated with honors from Central Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in computers and electronics.

He was a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Izaak Walton League, and the Sons of the VFW in honor of his father Larry’s service, and he often participated in political discussion groups. Throughout his career, Rob worked for Case New Holland and later owned and operated L&E Innovations, his computer business.

Rob is survived by his son, Taylor Jonak; Taylor’s wife, Rachel; and their four children—Hattie, Piper, William, and Lainey—whom he loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Evelyn, along with many cherished relatives.

A devoted grandfather, Rob passed down his passion for the outdoors to his grandchildren, teaching them how to fish, appreciate nature, and enjoy still water and quiet moments. He treasured hunting on the Nebraska prairie with his dog, Dozer, and sharing outdoor traditions with Taylor that would continue through generations.

Rob enjoyed paintballing with friends, coaching soccer and basketball, and embracing every opportunity to be present and involved. He was also an enthusiastic target shooter and competitor in steel shooting tournaments.

Casket bearers:  Wayne Morken, Gordon Happel, Dean Happel, Gary Morken, Rick Labonne, Steven Gorder, Jeff Gorder and Bradley Gorder—beloved cousins and lifelong friends.

Though he has left this world, Rob’s spirit remains in every shared smile, every quiet moment outdoors, and every life he touched. May we carry forward his generosity, humor, and gentle strength.

Memorial Service will be 11 am, Saturday, October 17th at the Faith Lutheran Church in Blackhammer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, financial contributions to support Robert Jonak’s son, Taylor Jonak, with final expenses would be deeply appreciated. Monetary gifts may be shared directly with Taylor or left at the funeral home.
