Howard Norman Coyle, 89 of Harmony, died Thursday, September 10th at his home where he was surrounded and lovingly cared for by his family.
Howard was born February 5, 1937, in Harmony, MN, to Norman and Mabel Coyle. He graduated from Canton High School in 1954. On October 3, 1954, he married Vivian Coyle, the love of his life. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the family farm where they together raised their five children. Following Vivian’s passing in 2009, Howard met Betty Eggers, his fiancé, who has been by his side for the past 16 years.
Howard was an active member of Henrytown Lutheran Church and served on the church council for many years. He also took great pride in serving on the Mabel-Canton School Board for many years.
Howard is leaving behind a legacy of faith, family devotion, and a passion for farming.
He cherished every minute spent with his family which was his greatest blessing. His family will always treasure his sense of humor, words of wisdom, and the many songs he would sing to them.
His faith was woven into his daily life by his commitment to serving others and always offering kindness to his neighbors. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his generosity, and the difference he made in the lives of those around him.
A lifelong farmer, Howard, took great pride in his land, his animals, and the seasons that shaped his life. His heart was full of gratitude for the harvests and the memories they brought.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; parents, Norman and Mabel Coyle; in-laws, Gordon and Agnes Johannsen; and brother in-laws, Wendell Johannsen and Gordon Johannsen.
He is survived by his fiancé, Betty Eggers; two daughters, Joleen (Rick) Erickson of Canton and Julie (Randy) Newman of Canton; three sons, Robert (Cindy) of Mabel, John (Jackie) of Harmony, and Randy (Teresa) of Canton; his grandchildren: Chad (Angie) Erickson, Jaime (Krystal) Erickson, Matthew (Nikki) Erickson, David (Michelle) Coyle, Angie (Joe) Nienow, Elizabeth (Brad) Barrett, Cassie (Jordan) Rasmussen, Meghan (Mitch) Johnson, Andrew (Abby) Coyle, Allison (Lily) Coyle, Tessa (Brent) Fjerstad, Tyler (Kelli Jo) Newman, Taylor (Lori) Coyle, and Blaine (Melissa) Coyle; and great-grandchildren: Drew Erickson, Noah Erickson, Ashlyn Erickson, Nate Erickson, Tori Erickson, Hunter Erickson, Hayden Erickson, Hope Erickson, Parker Coyle, Connor Coyle, Michael Barrett, Ariannah Barrett, Kara Barrett, Brooklyn Rasmussen, Ayva Rasmussen, Noah Rasmussen, Leighton Johnson, Weston Johnson, Cam Johnson, Lexi Fjerstad, Landon Fjerstad, Blake Bahl, Bridon Bahl, Grace Newman, Gabriella Newman, Sawyer Lange, Spencer Dornink, Kaiya Dornink, Tristan Coyle, Wyatt Coyle, Devyn Coyle, and Carson Coyle. He is also survived by his sister, Norma and brother, David (Janice) of Harmony, MN.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Harmony Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to Howard.
Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at 9:00 am at Henrytown Lutheran Church, Harmony, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, September 17 from 4-7 pm at Henrytown Lutheran Church.
Memorials can be directed to the church or to an organization or charity meaningful to the donor.
