Anthony M. McCabe, 57, of Burr Oak, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at WinnMed Hospital in Decorah, surrounded by his family who loved him deeply after a courageous battle with cancer.

Anthony was born on July 10, 1969, in Spring Grove, Minnesota, to Gary and Carol (Stead) McCabe. He graduated from North Winneshiek High School in 1987, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He then pursued electrical engineering at NIACC before beginning a career that eventually led him to found McCabe Electric in 2011.

Anthony took immense pride in his work. He believed in doing things the right way and never cutting corners. Those who knew him knew they could count on him—not only for his skill, but for his honesty, dependability, and willingness to help whenever someone needed a hand.

A faithful member of Burr Oak Methodist Church, Anthony served as a trustee and volunteered at Sunday School and youth programs. His faith guided the way he lived, the way he treated others, and the example he set for those around him.

While he worked hard, Anthony also knew how to enjoy life. He loved traveling to Mexico, where he could relax with family and friends and soak in the sunshine. He had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and a sarcastic remark ready for almost any occasion. He could make people laugh even on difficult days, and his smile and laughter were contagious. 

Anthony treasured time with the people he loved. But more than anything, Anthony was an extraordinary father. His children were the greatest joy of his life, and he loved them with unwavering pride and unconditional love. His children knew they could go to him with even the smallest of questions. No matter what, Dad always had an answer or was willing to help figure it out. He was their safe place, their biggest supporter, and their whole world. He taught by example showing them the value of hard work, honesty, kindness, and putting family first. His love extended beyond biology to Ashley and Troy Hovey, whom he loved as his own. The impact Anthony had on his family cannot be measured. 

Anthony is survived by his daughters, Harley (Drake Folkedahl) McCabe, Lexi (Gunnar) Grinna, and his son, Michael McCabe, all of Decorah; his bonus children, Ashley and Troy Hovey, of Decorah; his parents, Gary and Carol McCabe of Decorah; his sister, Sandra (Steve) Underbakke; his brothers, John (Toni) McCabe and Kevin (Holly) McCabe, all of Decorah; his grandson Myles Grinna; and his beloved dog, Reina. 

He was preceded in death by his adored niece, Rikki and his grandparents, Donald and Helen Stead and Gene and Clara McCabe.

Anthony will be remembered not only for the things he accomplished, but for the life he lived—with integrity, laughter, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family. His absence leaves an unfillable hole in our hearts, but the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
