Dennis Burreson, age 91, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 18th at Madonna Towers, surrounded by his loving family.
Dennis was born September 25, 1934 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Evelyn and Agnes (Anderson) Burreson. He was baptized at Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa, and confirmed at Scheie Lutheran Church in Mabel, MN. He graduated from Mabel High School in 1952, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in education from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. He served from 1957 to 1959 in the United States Army Signal Corps. On December 30, 1962 he married Patsy Mattson at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. He taught Social Studies and American History in Spring Grove, Hayfield, and Austin Public School districts. He had a lifetime passion for learning about and teaching all aspects of history.
Dennis enjoyed following Minnesota Sports, including the Vikings, Timberwolves, Twins, and Gophers. He was an avid supporter of the Winona State University Warriors and the Austin Packers. He enjoyed yardwork, reading, music and cars. His greatest joy was his family, and he cherished time with his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. His kindness, sense of humor and joyful demeanor were a blessing to all the lives he touched.
Dennis is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Patsy, of Rochester; children Kari (Terry) Schwab, Kathi (Tyson) Scrabeck, and Craig Burreson, all of Rochester; grandchildren Nathan Schwab, Lauren Schwab, Gunnar Scrabeck, and Stjan Scrabeck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Agnes.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1212 12th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Burial with military honors will be at 3 pm, Tuesday at Hesper Lutheran Cemetery, Hesper, IA. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
