Richard (Sonny) L. Henry passed away on November 2, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN after a short battle with cancer. He was born March 31, 1936 to Richard and Rose (Magee) Henry on the family farm near Cresco, Iowa. He attended country school in Howard County, Iowa. He was enlisted in the Army from 1959-1961 and was stationed in Colorado and Oklahoma. After his service, he returned to Iowa and was united in marriage to Patricia Erickson on May 23, 1964 at Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, MN. He worked for Smith Electric as an electrician and farmhand until he retired from the electrical duties, but continued on with the farm work until his death. The farm was like a second home to him and he enjoyed every day he got to spend there, especially his time spent with the owner and friend, Ace Hendricks, who always treated him like family. Richard was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Canton and the American Legion in Mabel, MN.
Richard is survived by two daughters, Debra (Rich) Heins of Postville, IA and Dee (Kevin) Holm of Red Wing, MN; three grandchildren, Ashley Heins, Alexander Holm, and Samantha Holm. He is also survived by siblings: Virgil Henry, Howard Henry, Arnie Henry, Terry Henry, Larry Henry, Gary Henry, Arden Henry, Randy Henry, Roger Henkel, Allen Messer, Terry Beare, Shirley Weber, Kathy Schmitt, and Rose Henry. He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents, his brother Allen Henry and his sisters Phyllis Henry and Joann Bertling.
Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday November 12th, 2022 at Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, MN with Father Edward McGrath officiating. Visitation will be from 5PM-7PM on Friday November 11th, 2022 at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, MN.
