Murrel was born February, 20, 1957 in Caledonia to Melvin and Madonna (Nelson). In 1975 he graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School. He had worked at the Mabel Creamery before starting a career in truck driving. He had drove truck for Fred Carlson Company, Knife River, and Bruening Rock Products, where he was known as “Maddog”, before retiring in 2020. On August 11, 1984 he married Connie Wilson at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church. They later divorced. Murrel was a member of the Son of the American Legion and the Mabel Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling the country roads, and his grandchildren.
Murrel passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022 at his home in Mabel at the age of 65.
Murrel is survived by two children Daniel (Misty Draper) of Mabel, and Kristen (Chad) Kelm of Bloomer, Wisconsin; grandchildren Trae, Reese, Mylee, Adley, and Wilson; step-grandchildren Skylar Brink, Brayden Kelm, and Brooklynn Kelm; brothers and sisters Marcia Nelson of Mabel, Mark (Diane) of Peterson, Minnesota, Maureen Sorum of Mabel, and Michael of Mabel; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Madonna; a niece Deanna Sorum; and brothers-in-law Wayne Sorum and Stanley Nelson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel. Burial will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4- 7 p. m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services at the church.
