James A. Esser, 87, of Caledonia, died Friday, January 21, 2022 at Green Lea Senior Living in Mabel.
James was born February 3, 1934 in Madison, Wisconsin to Andrew and Johanna "Ethel" (O'Connor) Esser. In 1952 he graduated from the Aquinas High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin. In 1953 he began a 24 year career in the United States Air Force. His Air Force career took him to Korea, Vietnam, Alaska, Finland, Minnesota and finally Duluth. After retiring from the Air Force as the First Sargent, Master Sargent, he lived in Duluth where he worked as a CNA for several years. Jim and his wife Wanda relocated in retirement to Mountain Home, Arkansas until moving to Caledonia, Minnesota two years ago. He had an artistic mind and enjoyed creating many different kinds of art. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.
James is survived by four children Catherine (Michael) Kasten of Houston, Minnesota, Andrew (Kim) of La Crescent, Minnesota, John (Darcy) of Eitzen, Minnesota, and Eileen (Terry) Meyer of La Crescent, Minnesota; step-daughter Ruth of Colorado; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a brother Richard (Anita) of Seattle, Washington. He was preceded in death by wife Wanda; his first wife Joan; his parents; a sister Terese Scheiche; and a brother Bob Esser.
