Eloise L. Bergey

July 24, 1931 - August 7, 2021

Eloise LaVonne (Thompson) Bergey, 90 of Harmony, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the Harmony Care Center, with family by her side.

Eloise was born in Rushford on July 24, 1931, the third child, of Larney and Eldora (Danielson) Thompson.

Her first years were spent in Rushford and Mabel.  She was very proud of her years at Vale Country School near Canton. In 1949, she graduated from Canton High School.  After graduation, Eloise moved to Minneapolis and worked there for a short period of time.

On November 16, 1951, she married Merle Bergey in Harmony and enjoyed 62 years of married life.  Her children were her greatest gifts.

Eloise was a lifetime member of the Henrytown Lutheran Church, the Lois Circle and Ladies Aid, and served as a 4-H leader for many years.

The most important thing in Eloise’s life was her family.  She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister.  For many years, she enjoyed hosting all family events.  She was a wonderful cook, and shared many of her favorite recipes in the Canton School and Henrytown cookbooks.  Her barbeques and scalloped potatoes will live on for generations.

She loved raising her family on the Bergey farm.  She enjoyed gardening, was a wonderful seamstress, and loved making sure people were well fed.  You would never walk away from Eloise’s hungry.

Everyone loved Eloise.  She had a gift for making people feel special.  Eloise was a woman of great strength.

Two of her greatest companions were her dog, Mickey and her cat, Lucky.

Eloise is survived by six children, Diane (Steve) Allbee, of Dunn Loring VA., Donald (Debra) Bergey, of Canton, David (Karen) Bergey of Harmony, Dean (Marsha) Bergey of Harmony, Danette (Tim) Daniels, of Waconia, and Doug (Debbie) Bergey, of Spring Valley; 15 grandchildren, Missy (Greg) Cappucci, Shelly (Mark) Maguire, Jeremy (Heather) Bergey, Brock Bergey, Shawn Bergey, Shara (Paul) Dols, Jaime Bergey, Brandon (Kati) Bergey, Brady (Kelly) Bergey, Kristina (Dan) Bess, Celeste (Justin) Mueller, Dillon (Jacey) Bergey, Channing (Taylor) Cole, Payton Bergey and Tyler Daniels; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dianna Eickhoff, of Fountain; Patti Snell of Mabel and Sharon (Bob) Peterson of Mabel; two brothers, Steve Thompson of Dodge Center and Rodney (Carol) Thompson of Mabel.

Eloise was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, a son, Dennis, an infant daughter, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, at Henrytown Lutheran Church, rural Canton,  with burial in the church cemetery to follow.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Henrytown Lutheran Church on Friday, August 13, and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
