DORIS DARRINGTON

January 14, 1921 - December 20, 2020

Doris was born January 14, 1921 in Waukon, Iowa to Paul and Charlotte (Blegen) Moen. She graduated from the Waukon High School in 1938 and then from the Normal Training Course.  She taught in rural schools in Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties. On September 20, 1942 she married Leslie Anderson.  After Leslie’s return from military service, they farmed in northern Winneshiek County  until his death.  On January 15, 1983 she married Roger Darrington.  They moved to Spring Grove in 1990.

Doris was active helping on the farm.  She was an active member at the Hesper Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, was an usher, and held various offices in the church WELCA and Circle. Doris and Roger along with another couple served as Chairpersons for 18 years for the Hesper Lutheran food stand for the Hesper Mabel Steam Engine Days.  She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, quilting, playing cards, dancing, traveling, and doing puzzles.

Doris passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Gundersen Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove, Minnesota at the age of 99.

Doris is survived by three step-children Craig (Judy) Darrington of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, Cathy Stephenson of Stillwater, Minnesota, and Cory (Vicky ) Darrington of Colton, California; six step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Charlotte; her husbands, Leslie and Roger; three brothers and their wives, Austin and Myrtle Moen, Emmons and Esther Moen, Curt and Sharol Moen; a sister, Rose Oyen and her husband Burton; sister-in-laws, Lois Anderson Flatin Walker and her husbands Tilford Flatin and John Walker, and Barbara Skramstad; brother-in-law, Oren Anderson ( Ella ); and two nephews James Moen and Donald Flatin.

Graveside services will be 11 AM Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.    Memorials are preferred to the Hesper Lutheran Church, 3794 188th Ave., Decorah, IA 52101.
