ROBERT M. HAAGENSON

February 27, 1949 - August 4, 2020

Robert Michael Haagenson formerly of Dubuque, Iowa died Tuesday, August 4th at the VA Medical Center, Des Moines, IA. Robert was a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving as an Army infantryman, Company D, 5 th Battalion, 1 st Brigade.

Robert was born to Stanley and Rose Haagenson on February 27, 1949 in Dubuque, Iowa. He attended Nativity Catholic School. The family later moved near Potosi, Wisconsin where Robert helped on the family farm. He graduated from Potosi High School and was drafted into the Army that same year receiving his basic training at Fort Campbell, KY. He was first deployed to Germany and then to Vietnam. Bob returned to his family in Dubuque, Iowa after serving his country. He learned auto mechanics from his father and loved cars and was employed as a mechanic. He also loved the Mississippi River spending time on his boat fishing and exploring areas near Clinton and Bellevue.

Robert is survived by his siblings James (Natasha) Haagenson of Melbourne, Australia, Steven (Mary) Haagenson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mary Anderson of Batavia, Illinois, and Patricia (Robert) Bradley of Manteno, Illinois;  nieces and nephews, Dara Haagenson, Eric (Mercedes) Haagenson, Kate Brown, Alex (Calla) Bigg, Kelly (Tony) Yakes, Lauren Anderson, and Ryan (Heather) Bradley. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Stanley Haagenson, and his brother, Kevin Haagenson. 

Arrangements by ILES Funeral Homes in Des Moines, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Service will be at a later date at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church, Mabel, MN with Mengis Funeral Home in charge of services with burial in the Garness Lutheran cemetery.
