Lorraine Margaret (Yost) Arntson, age 100, formally of Minneapolis and Alexandria, MN, died peacefully on May 29th, 2020 at Green Lea Senior Living in Mabel, MN.
Lorraine was born in Minneapolis on July 29, 1919, the youngest of five, to John and Margaret (Gratz) Yost. She graduated from North High, class of 1938. On August 31, 1940 she married Norman Arntson, the boy next door. In 1990 they retired to Lake Latoka in Alexandria. Norman passed away in 1992 after 51 years of marriage.
Mom continued to live on the lake for 20 more years. She took pride in her home and grew many flowers and vegetables. Her geraniums and sunflowers were her pride and joy. She loved entering items for the Douglas County Fair, each year winning many Blue Ribbons. She especially loved her neighbors, they were her “Lake Family.” They looked out for her, stopped to visit her, and called to check on her when the weather was bad. I am ever so grateful they cared so much.
In 2011 Lorraine moved to Mabel, Minnesota to be closer to her daughter.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Richard Ekberg, sisters Lucille Kloster, Charlotte Faber, Helen Tower, and brother Ralph Yost.
She is survived by a son John (Martha) Arntson; daughter Maryann (Jerry) Baker; grandchildren Roxanne Dickison, Loriann Ekberg, Anthony Ekberg, Erin Harrell, Eric Arntson, and Alex Arntson; great grandchildren Jerad Nelson, Zach & Connor Hintz, Jessica & Andrew Dickison, and Addison, Mackenzie, & Colin Harrell; two great great grandchildren Payton and Samantha; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 1 PM Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, 723 W. Winona Rd., Alexandria, MN. Casual dress is requested. Memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s School for scholarships at 420 Irving St., Alexandria, MN 56308 or send to Maryann Baker, 3332 193rd Ave., Decorah, IA, 52101.
