MILDRED J. DANIELSON

September 25, 1928 - December 20, 2019

 Mildred was born September 25, 1928 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Oscar and Genora (Overhaug) Horgen. She attended the Sacquitne Country School and graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1947. On June 27, 1948 she married Lyle Paulson at the Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Mabel area and later east of Hesper. Lyle passed away on December 5, 1990. On September 23, 1995 she married Roger Danielson at her home near Hesper. They lived on his farm near Prosper until moving to Burr Oak in 1997. Roger passed away April 28, 2008.

Mildred was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Mabel, and the Hesper Lutheran Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also held various positions on the church council. Mildred’s many hobbies included growing plants and flowers, caring for her cats, playing cards, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed checking adventures off her bucket list.

Mildred was also instrumental in establishing the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum and served on the board for several years. Recently, she served as a township director for the Winneshiek County Historical Society.

Mildred passed away Friday, December 20, 2019 at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, Wisconsin at the age of 91.

Mildred is survived by five children: Russel (Pat) Paulson of Winona, Minnesota; Cindy (Gary) Schnitzler of Burr Oak, Iowa; Cherry (Tim) Critton of Bowling Green, Ohio; Eric (Deb) Paulson of Decorah, Iowa; and Mike (Lori) Paulson of Hesper, Iowa. Ten grandchildren: Dan (Julie) Paulson, Carver, Minnesota; Kyle Paulson, Winona, Minnesota; Catina (Joe) Ward, Calmar, Iowa; Caleb (Paula) Schnitzler, Decorah, Iowa; Heidi (John) Sobolik, Janesville, Minnesota; Amy Critton, New York City, New York; Matthew (Amanda) Critton, Genoa, Ohio; Fred Paulson, Decorah, Iowa; James Paulson, Decorah, Iowa; Oskar Paulson, Decorah, Iowa; five step grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Marie Johnson of Oroville, California; and a large loving extended family and many longtime friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lyle Paulson and Roger Danielson, and a great-granddaughter; her parents; father and mother in law Edwin and Mabel (Erickson) Paulson; brother-in-law's Millard Paulson, Donald Paulson, Clifton Paulson, and Fred Paulson; sister-in-law's Alvina Kenyon, Barbara Becker, and Mavis Wrycha.

Memories and stories can be shared at a celebration of life Sunday, December 29 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the American Legion Hall in Mabel, Minnesota. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Hesper Lutheran Church with the Reverend Wayne Ellingson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 –10:45 am at the church.
