GEORGE L. MORKEN
January 1, 1933 - April 22, 2018

George was born January 1, 1933 in LaCrosse to Solvie and Karen (Dolalie) Morken.  He attended country schools in the Oak Ridge and Chisolm Valley area and graduated from the Houston High School in 1950.  He served in the United States Army from 1953-1954 as a tank  mechanic. On October 29, 1955 he married Marleen Dragvold at the Stone Church near Houston. He had worked at the hardware store in Houston, Trane in LaCrosse, for Roverud Construction, Sullivan Construction, Thompson Grain in Spring Grove, and Pederson Brothers in Harmony from 1973 until retiring in 1998. In retirement he delivered motorhomes for Bennett International Group of Forest City, Iowa. He was member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Spring Grove. George was also a member of the Old Style Auto Club and enjoyed working on old cars and showing them in parades. 

George passed away surrounded by family, Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin at the age of 85.

George is survived by his wife Marleen of Spring Grove; five children Nancy (Steve) Welper of Rochester, Minnesota, Laurie Peck of Jordan,  Minnesota, Wayne of Jordan, Minnesota, Gary (Sue) of Mabel, Minnesota, and Lisa (Rod Foltz) of Cresco, Iowa; sisters-in-law Charlotte LaBonne and Lynda Gorder, eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl; parent in-laws, Martin and Gilma (Treangen) Dragvold, brothers and sisters-in-law, Helen and Roger Valadez, David Gorder, Evelyn and Larry Jonak, Gerald and Lylah Dragvold, Bill LaBonne  and a son-in-law Robin Peck. 

Memorial service will be 2 PM Saturday, April 28, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.  Visitation will be 12 – 2 PM prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the State Veteran’s Cemetery in Preston at 11AM Monday, April 30. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
