BRIAN KERNS
November 5, 1961 - November 11, 2017

Brian was born November 5, 1961 in Rochester, Minnesota to Lynn and Diana (Dotzenrod) Kerns.  He grew up in the Prosper area and graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School in 1980. On August 29, 1987 he married Lorie Qualy in Lanesboro Minnesota. They made Canton their home and raised three daughters, Kayla, Alixandra and Kaysie. Brian was an active member of the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church and served as a church elder. He was also proud to be a long term member of the Canton Volunteer Fire Department, celebrating his 24th year on November 1st. He worked at Minnowa Construction for the last several years and loved his coworkers. Brian was an avid sports fan, especially for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings but had a passion for all sports. He was a people person and a master at socializing. Brian was happiest spending time with family and friends, and took great pride in his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time in his garage, whether it be watching sports, hosting Vikings parties, grilling out or working on his many projects. Brian was also known for his wonderful singing voice which brought much enjoyment to all of those who were fortunate enough to be in his presence.

Brian passed away peacefully Saturday, November 11 at his home in Canton following an 18 month battle with cancer, at the age of 56.

Brian is survived by his wife Lorie of Canton; three daughters Kayla (Nick) Nichols of Canton, Alixandra (Travis) Nichols of Mabel, and Kaysie of Canton; three grandsons Rylin, Ryker, and Brant; his father Lynn of New Hampton, Iowa; two brothers  Brad (Barb) and Devry (Tina) both of Canton; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother Diana Kerns-Fitch and his grandparents.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 16 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton with Rev. Margaret Jumonville officiating. Burial will be in the Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 8WednesdayNovember 15 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton and one hour prior to services at the church.
