JOYCE MARIE SKADSEM
September 15, 1964 - May 5, 2016

Joyce was born September 15, 1964 to Willis and Mavis (Benson) Skadsem in Waterloo, Iowa.  In 1965 they moved to a farm in Black Hammer where Joyce grew up.  She attended school in Houston, Minnesota.  She worked in various places throughout her life, but mostly enjoyed her time bartending at the Cozy Corner, custom fencing with her dad and brother, working as a CNA at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home, and socializing with her friends.

Joyce lived in Black Hammer and surrounding areas until finally settling down in Mabel with her sister DeeAnn and her dog Sparky. She enjoyed being outside fencing, fishing, canoeing, inner tubing, and camping.  She also enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing cards, doing puzzles, playing bingo, riding her scooter and golf cart, cooking, and taking care of Sparky.

Joyce passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at her home in Mabel at the age of 51.

Joyce is survived by her sisters DeeAnn Skadsem of Mabel and Cindy (Tom) Andrews of Black Hammer; brother LarrySkadsem of Spring Grove; three nieces Sherry Otterness and Elissa Otterness of Black Hammer, and Ashley (Mike) Bromaghanof North Carolina; a nephew Iver (Amy) Otterness of Spring Grove; two great nieces Jazzaime, and Brooklyn; one great nephewBohde; and her dog Sparky.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willis and Mavis (Benson) Skadsem; a brother Randy; and grandparents Melvin and Elida (Olafson) Skadsem, and Gynther and Muriel (Englehart) Benson.

A special thank-you to Shelly Johnson, Peggy Davis, Elaine White, and Mary Peterson for all the time and support they gave to Joyce.

May God richly bless the memory of Joyce Marie Skadsem and to all who know and loved her.

Memorial service will be 11 AM Wednesday, May 11 at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer, Minnesota with Pastor Leonard Liptack officiating. Burial will be in church Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Tuesday, May 10 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
