David LeRoy Newton was born June 24, 1939 in Lanesboro, Minnesota to Floyd and Cora (Thompson) Newton. He attended Mabel High School and then served in the United States Army with the 1st Missile Battalion 40th Artillery Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He ran a tree trimming service for many years. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing hunting, and snowmobile racing. He was known by family and friends as “Little Woody” or “Cowboy”.
In 1964 he married Ingrid Vallely. They had one son, Timothy. They later divorced. He later married Trudy Fitch Sorum. They later divorced.
David passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Green Lea Senior Living in Mabel.
David is suvived by his son Timothy of Seattle Washington, four sisters and a brother Ann (Tom) Emery, Carol (Rodney) Thompson, Pauline Vigeland, Elaine Johnson, and Tony (Shelly) Gerard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Newton and Cora Gerard.
A military graveside service will be held at the Henry on the Hill Cemetery nearHenrytown at 11a.m on Saturday, June 11 with Rev. Mary Waudby officiating and military honors by the American Legion. Lunch will follow at the Canton Town Hall. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Canton Town Hall.
