June was born June 15, 1914 in Preble Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to Thor and Inga (Ladsten) Velde. As a young girl she attended Tawney country schools and the Scheie Lutheran Church. On June 23, 1938 she married Ernest Lerol. She worked hard on their farm in Preble Township milking cows and raising beef cattle, pigs, sheep, chickens, and turkeys. In the evenings she would do her cooking and baking, always having fresh bread and cinnamon rolls. Ernest later died on August 5, 1992. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Highland, Ladies Aid, and Circle.
June passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at the age of 101.
June is survived by two daughters Ellen Lerol Schreiner of Oak Grove, Missouri, and Delores “Dee” Churchill of Farmington, Minnesota; six grandchildren Michael Jon (Stacy) Schreiner, Kristen Niewald Schreiner, Sherry McDonald, Kim Mayer, Michelle McCulley, and Kathy (Nick) Besser; great grandchildren Mary Ellen, Liz, Aidan, Ethan, Parker, Danny, Augie, Samantha, Jordan, Cindy, Vicki, Jack, and Harold; and a sister Ruby Langstaff of Preston, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest, two sisters Esther Northouse and Mildred Adams, son-in-law Larry Hellendrung, and grandson-in-law Joseph McCulley.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the First Lutheran Church of Highland in rural Lanesboro, Minnesota with Pastor Patricia Hinkie officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 7 pm Friday, January 15 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
