EVELYN SHIRLEY “EVIE” JONAK
March 24, 1943 - September 21, 2014

Funeral Service will be 2 PM Saturday, September 27th at Faith Lutheran Church in Blackhammer, Minnesota with Pastor Leonard Liptack officiating. Burial will be in church Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Friday, September 26th at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
Evie was born March 24, 1943, in Rushford, Minnesota, to Martin and Gilma (Treangen) Dragvold.  Evie was united in marriage to the father of her son, Larry Jonak in Rockford, Illinois. She lived in LaCrosse, WI and Spring Grove, MN, moving to Grand Island in 1968. While in Minnesota, Evie was employed by Rush Products. In Grand Island, her employment included GIA, Pacific Tool, Delicious Foods and Sleep Inn. Evie’s nurturing spirit was always present. She raised her two nieces, with the help of her sisters and brother. Their Norwegian heritage was evident when Evelyn’s siblings got together and they spoke their “old-world” language. Always putting others ahead of herself, Evie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson.
Her hobbies included ceramics, watching “Wheel of Fortune”, playing cards and cooking. Evie’s specialty was chicken noodle soup, “For the Soul” and there was a life lesson with every mouthful.
Evie entered Heaven’s gate  September 21, 2014 in Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 71.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Robert Jonak of Grand Island; grandson, Taylor Jonak of Omaha and his fiancée, Rachael Parker; sisters, Marlene (George) Morken of Spring Grove, MN, Charlotte (Bill) LaBonne of Canton, MN and Linda Gorder of Peterson, MN; several nieces and nephews; and her grand-doggy, Dozer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Robert’s father Larry Jonak; brother, Gerald Dragvold and sister, Helen Valedez.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all of Evie’s merciful caregivers.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
