) Ruth Muriel (Street) Weinmann, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN following a brief illness.
Ruth was born May 6, 1926, the daughter of Granville and Avis (Hawks) Street of Hesper, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Vernon Weinmann at Hesper Friends Meeting House in Hesper on December 27, 1948.
Ruth was raised on a farm near Hesper, Iowa. As a child she helped her father on his cheese route during the Great Depression.
She attended Hesper Village School, Mabel High School, Wiliam Penn College and Winona State College. Following graduation, both she and her husband taught school until the birth of their first child. While Vernon enjoyed a long career in the Technical Writing department of IBM in Rochester, Minnesota, after teaching a class for them in 1958, Ruth spent the majority her time caring for her home and family, with intermittent employment with the Rochester School District , and as a cashier for local grocery stores. When her husband retired, the two of them moved home to Hesper, to provide assistance to her elderly mother, Avis Street, until her passing, and later for her aunt, Carol Hawks, following the passing of Carol's brother, Loren.
Ruth is survived by her three children, William (Teresa) Weinmann, Russell (Donnie) Weinmann, and Donna Weinmann.; a daughter in law, Roxanne Weinmann; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Neva (Bob) Hain and Karen (Bob) Tracy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Larry Weinmann; 2 brothers, John and Paul Street; and a sister, Arlene Boyum.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Monday, July 28th, at Hesper Friends Meeting House, Hesper. Pastor Keith Mardock will officiate and burial will be in
Hesper Public Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the Meeting House on Monday. Mengis Funeral Home, Mabel is assisting the family
