JEROME "JERRY" NELSON

August 4, 1944 - May 26, 2014

Jerry was born August 4, 1944 in Preston, Minnesota to Odell and Mildred (Sorenson) Nelson.  He graduated from the Canton High School and from 1962-1966 he served in the United States Air Force.  He owned and operated Nelson Electric in Mabel for 29 years, was a past commander for the American Legion Post 400 in Canton and also for Post 299 in Mabel.  He served 24 years on the Mabel Fire Department, was past president of the Mabel Lions Club, and a member of the Mabel Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and camping.

Jerry passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Gundersen Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin at the age of 69.

Jerry is survived two sisters Marlene Wisland of Canton, and Janet Tripp of Mantorville, Minnesota; nieces and nephews Mike, Linda, Steve, Sandy, Dean, Dawn, Bryan, and Terianna, several great nieces and nephews, and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Curtis, a nephew David Wilder, and brother-in-law Flavian Wisland.

Memorial service will be 11 AM Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Harmony, Minnesota with Pastor Mary Waudby officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the American Legion.  Visitation will be from 5 - 7 PM Thursday, May 29 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church in Henrytown.
