Marilyn was born August 6, 1947 in LaCrosse, WI to George and Viola (Vetsch) Doering. She grew up in Hokah and graduated from the Houston High School in 1965. On September 7, 1968 she married Mervin Nelson at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Riceford, Minnesota. They lived on the same farm in Blackhammer Township, Houston County, Minnesota. She worked for SEMCAC Head Start for 27 years. She was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church and WELCA and enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, working on the farm, and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed catering for several events in the area.
Marilyn passed away after a short battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at her home, per her wishes, at the age of 66.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Mervin of Mabel; four children Barb (Bill) Shafer of Nora Springs, IA, Doug (Angela) of Fredericksburg, IA, Kathy Nelson, of Bloomington, MN, and Kevin Nelson of Mabel; five grandchildren Jacob, Ava, and Carly Shafer, and Hunter and Abigail Nelson; four sisters Ann Doering of Spring Grove, Nancy (Jack) Anderegg of Winona, MN, Connie (Keith) Petras of Lacrescent, MN, and Angela (Robert) Burmester of Mabel; sister-in-law Reenie Doering of Spring Grove; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother David, infant sister Lola, and brother Larry.
Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Interment will be in the Riceford Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 7 pm Friday, November 15 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church. |
