CARLA H. JOHNSON

September 1, 1920 - March 17, 2013

Carla was born September 1, 1920 in Newburg Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to Elmer and Geva (Iverson) Faa.  She attended several rural schools and graduated from the 8th grade.  On October 4, 1941 she married Myron Johnson in Mabel.  They farmed in the area for a number of years and operated the Newhouse Store and the C & M Café in Mabel.  She worked in several area factories and restaurants and was known for her baking perfection.  She worked at the Semcac Senior dining site until the age of 80. Myron passed away January 20, 1987.  She was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church and its women’s groups.  Carla enjoyed playing cards, cooking and baking, dancing, julebukking, and socializing with all of her friends.  She was very active and loved to be on the go.  She enjoyed her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carla passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa at the age of 92.

Carla is survived by three daughters Dorene (Dennis) Garness of Canton, Shirley (Rick) Landsom of Spring Grove, and Betsy (Neil) Folstad of Mabel; eleven grandchildren Corey Garness, Nicole (Garness) Holm, Valerie (Garness) Torgerson, Cassey Landsom, Chris Landsom, Carley Landsom, Melissa Folstad, Stephanie Folstad, Ashley (Folstad) Rein, Kyle Folstad, Gina (Folstad) Peterson; ten great grandchildren; and four other children dear to her heart also called her Grandma Carla.  She was preceded in death by her husband, two infant children, her parents, one granddaughter, one great granddaughter, and a brother Norman Faa.

Funeral services will be 11AM Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 – 7 Wednesday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.<
