Elizabeth was born on October 8, 1933 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Clarence and Rose (Newgaard) Storlie. She graduated from the Spring Grove High School. On December 13, 1950 she married Delmar Sanden. She worked at C & D Café and Control Data in Spring Grove, did daycare out of her home, a teacher’s aide at Mabel-Canton School, secretary at Green Lea Manor for 23 years, and Margaret’s Clothing Store in Decorah.
She was an active member of Mabel First Lutheran Church and its WELCA, and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She enjoyed baking, quilting, embroidering, playing cards, bowling, and shopping. Delmar and Elizabeth loved dancing and were members of Polka and Square Dancing clubs. They went on many cruises and bus trips, travelling through 48 states. They were married 62 years. She loved the visits from the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elizabeth passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel after a 12 ½ year battle with cancer at the age of 79.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband Delmar of Mabel; four children Dennis Sanden of Carrolton, Texas, DiAnne (Gerald) Peter of Mabel, Danny (Janet) Sanden of Mabel, and Dale Sanden of Hayfield, Minnesota; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters Carol (Luverne) Schroeder of Spring Grove, and Barb (Larry) Oefstedahl of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son David, a sister Marion, a brother Clayton, and infant brother Clifford.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Gail George officiating. Burial will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 – 6 PM Sunday, February 10th and one hour prior to services at the Mabel First Lutheran Church. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting the family with arrangements. |
