ANDREW SOLLIEN

November 23, 1928 - August 13, 2012

Andy was born November 23, 1928 in Quandahl, Iowa to Johannes and Dora (Auna) Sollien.  He attended country schools in the Quandahl area.  On January 30, 1949 he married Inez Osmundson at the Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove.  They lived in the Spring Grove, Quandahl, and Van Horn areas before settling in the Hesper and Mabel area in 1950.  He had worked as a logger for a short time, at Good Year in Van Horn, and then for Midland in Mabel from 1953 until 1983.  In 1984 he and his son, Tim, started Sollien Service Center and Used Cars and later Mabel Amoco in Mabel. Andy Retired in 2006. He was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church and Alcoholics Anonymous. He had served on the Mabel Fire Department for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing trips with friends, trips to LasVegas, playing cards and cribbage, wheeling and dealing on cars, the annual fire department squirrel hunt, and spending time with his family. Andy passed away died Monday, August 13, 2012  at Tweeten Healthcare in Spring Grove at the age of 83.

Andy is survived by two daughters Andrea (Forrest) Folkedahl and Deb (Greg) Nelson both of Hesper, Iowa; a son Timothy of Mabel; seven grandchildren Brenda (Burt) Hongerholt of Lanesboro, Scott (Brenda) Nelson of Stewartville, Rick (Stacy) Nelson of Stewartville, Allison (Chris) Twite of Lanesboro, Lisa (Nathan) Halverson of Mabel, Laura (Josh) Hostings of Canton, and Andrew Sollien of Mabel; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters Judy (Gene) Mahr of Lime Springs, Iowa, and  Martha Rude of Mabel; sister-in-laws Jaerdis (Norwin) Nesheim of Decorah, Florence (Herbert) Thorson of Spring Grove; and brother-in-laws Jerold (Joan) of Washburn, Iowa, and Richard (LeaEtta) of Eagan, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.  Andy was preceded in death by his wife Inez; his parents; a grandson, Troy; brother Stanley; sister Cora Malick; three sisters-in-law Adele Burnett, Sharon Schumacher, and Gladys Sollien; and brother-in-law Curt Rude.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating.  Burial will be in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Friday, August 17 at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper and one hour prior to services.
