Marjorie was born October 5, 1928 in Amherst Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to Albert and Stella (Johnson) Helgeson. She attended school in Amherst, Canton, and Lanesboro. On January 24, 1946 she married Ordell Garness in Harmony. They farmed in Canton, Township until moving to Lanesboro in 1990 and then to Winona in 2008. She was a member of the Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Harmony where she taught Sunday School for many years and also belonged to the WELCA. She enjoyed crafts, garage sales, collecting, cooking, and visiting the casino.
Marge passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Sauer Heath Care in Winona at the age of 83.
Marge is survived by her husband Ordell of Winona; four children Dean (Sonja) of Red Wing, Dennis (Dorene) of Canton, Nelvin (Chris) of Wabasha, and Marsha (Kris) Hall of Winona; 13 grandchildren Jon Garness, Dana Novak, Corey Garness, Nicole Holm, Valerie Torgerson, Maria Slawson, Joe Garness, Colin Garness, Jennifer Backer, Alison Prodzinski, Laura Strobush, Kayla Hall, and Ryan Hall; 17 great grandchildren; a sister Ruby Amdahl of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her a great grandson Caleb; her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Harmony with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM Sunday, May 20 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are preferred to Sauer Health Care. |
