Ruby Sanden was born May 1, 1925 in Hesper, Iowa to Knute O. Sanden, Sr. and Kristina (Knudson) Sanden. Ruby graduated from the Mabel High School in 1943. On August 14, 1943 she married Norris Erlandson in Mabel. They farmed in the Mabel area until 1964 when they moved into Mabel. She worked many years at Lind’s Grocery in Mabel which later became Boyum IGA, and finally Hometown Foods. She also helped her son, Steve, at the Canton Cardinal in Canton. She was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel and its WELCA. Ruby enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, and dancing, but most of all spending time with family and friends. She was known for always being dressed up.
Ruby passed away Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel at the age of 87.
Ruby is survived by a daughter Carolyn White of Apple Valley, Minnesota; seven grandchildren Lisa Erlandson, Shane (Dawn) Erlandson, Todd (Maureen)White, Chris White, Aaron (Becki) White, Ben White, and Sara (John) Roland; fourteen great grandchildren; and special friend Mervin Dvergsten of Spring Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Norris; son Steven; four grandchildren Lynn, Laura, Amy, and Jonathan; and
half brothers and sisters Lueda (Brenna) Street, Calma (Brenna) Sanden, Mary (Sanden) Grindland, Clara (Sanden) Welper, Knute Sanden Jr., Olaf Sanden, Ole Sanden.
Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, May19, 2012 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 Friday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church. |
