Mary Florence (Snyder) Caldwell was born May 8, 1934 in Canton, Minnesota to Cyril and Dorothy (Connolly) Snyder. She graduated from the Canton High School in 1952. On June 21, 1952 she married Patrick Caldwell at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton. To this union six children were born Phil, Cindy, Debra, Scott, Dorothy, and Mary. As a lifelong member of Assumption, she was involved with the Rosary group, Altar Society, bookkeeper, and lector. Mary was a volunteer at Franciscan Skemp in LaCrosse and the Harmony Nursing Home, and belonged to the Prorati Library Club.
Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, and second, after her family, was going with friends to their birthday luncheons!
Mary died at home on December 16, 2011 surrounded by her family after a courageous two year battle with cancer.
Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years Pat; two sons Phil (Bev) of Abita Springs, Louisiana, and Scott of Canton; three daughters Cindy (Ross) Duckett of Canton, Dorothy (Pete) McKernan of Harmony, and Mary (Marvin) Kuhn of Mabel; 14 grandchildren Patrick and Stephen Caldwell, Deb Johnson, Teresa Hershberger, Josh Thelemann, Samantha and Zach Caldwell, William, Maggie and Molly McKernan, Stephanie, Lindsey, Mitchell and Ryan Kuhn; five great grandchildren; a sister Georgia Lee of Aurora Colorado; a brother Cy (Mary) of Neenah, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Debra; and a sister Carolyn Prestby.
Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, Minnesota with Father Donald P. Schmitz officiating. Visitation will be at the church in Canton from 4 - 8 PM on Monday, December 19 with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Memorials are preferred to the Ronald McDonald House or Hospice. |
