DOROTHY MAE LARSON

May 7, 1911 - November 14, 2011

Dorothy Mae Larson (nee Stroud) was born to Roy James and Flora Vought Stroud at their farm house near the Village of Mabel, MN on May 7, 1911.  She died on November 14, 2011 at the age of 100 years, 6 months, and 7 days in Maplewood, MN.  Dorothy married Adolph Larson in the Mabel Methodist parsonage on February 23, 1935.  She is survived by the three children born to this marriage: Joanne (Glenn) Ickler of Hopedale, MA, Richard (Elaine Wallace) of Pioneer, CA, and David (Delores Flynn) of Roseville, MN.  Dorothy is also survived by seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and three sisters-in-law, June Larson, Irene Anderson, and Jeanette O’Hara.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Donald Stroud, and her sisters, Audrey Cheney and Marjorie Priebe.

Dorothy and Adolph farmed for many years near Mabel, MN.  They were active in the Farm Bureau, 4-H, and the Mabel Methodist Church.  They enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, AZ.  Dorothy was known for her dry wit.  She enjoyed painting landscapes in watercolors and etchings.  She was an accomplished musician and was the church organist for many years.

We wish to thank the caregivers of Suite Living Maplewood and St. Jude Hospice nurse, Renee, for making Dorothy as comfortable as possible in her final years and days.

Funeral services will be 1 PM, Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Mabel United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in the Mabel Public Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
