HENRY "HANK" CHENEY

August 17, 1945 - September 7, 2011

Hank was born August 17, 1945 in Oelwein, Iowa to Henry, Sr. and Donna (Van Sickle) Cheney.  He graduated from the Spring Valley High School in 1964.  He served in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1969.  On August 14, 1971 he married Joan Hanson at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester.  He worked for Crenlo for several years and then Hormel in Austin for 26 years.  He was a member of the Masons, the Shriners, the American Legion, and the Eagles.  He enjoyed old cars, crossword puzzles, and his dog Sheba.

Hank died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 66.

Hank is survived by his wife Joan of Austin; a daughter Christina Bain of Spring Valley; a son Michael of Austin; six grandchildren Joshua, Justin, Richard, Katarina, Christopher, and Haylee; on great grandchild L.J.; a sister Janice (Freeman) Welch; two step brothers Russell (Charlotte) Wilson of Birmingham, Alabama, and A.G. (Audrey) Wilson of Gillette, Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father Alford Wilson; and a step-sister Ann Durst.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, September 12, 2011at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating.  Burial will be in the Scheie North Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM Sunday, September 11 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
