Dorothy was born February 17, 1933 in Harmony, Minnesota to Harold and Irene (McCarty) Flynn. She graduated from the Harmony High School in 1951. She worked for the Mayo Clinic and the Harmony Creamery for a short time. On September 12, 1952 she married Oliver “Bud” Amdahl at the Rectory in Canton. They operated a gas station in Harmony where they resided for a short time. In 1958 they moved to the farm near Tawney, Minnesota. They later moved to a farm site in Preble Township. Together they operated “Amdahl Realty” for over 30 years. She was a member of the St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel and its Altar Society. She enjoyed cooking, going out to eat, her grandchildren and great grandchildren and going to their activities, and visiting with family and friends.
Dorothy died Friday, September 2, 2011 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel at the age of 78.
Dorothy is survived by four children Rachel (Jimmy) Narum, Linda (Craig) Olson, Craig (Lauren) and Mike (Raquel) of Mabel; seven grandchildren Chad Inglett, Justin Olson, Trevor Narum, Melissa Narum, Logan Olson, Jenna Amdahl, and Jesse Amdahl; nine great grandchildren Justin, Alaina, Madison, Caden, Emma, Jackson, Alyvia, Luke, and Braylee; a sister Cathleen (Rolf) Hatling of Rushford; two brothers Jim (Sonja) Flynn of Rockford, Illinois, and Donnie (Jean) Flynn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa ; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and an infant brother.
Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel with Father Donald P. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in rural Mabel. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Monday, September 5th at the church and there will be a prayer service at 7. Memorials are preferred to the Relay for Life. |
