MARLIS J. PIERCE

September 9, 1930 - February 28, 2011

Marlis was born September 9, 1930 in Newburg Township, Fillmore County to Clifford and Mathilda (Bjergum) Engebretson.  She was baptized at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Mabel First Lutheran Church.  She attended country schools in the Mabel and Spring Grove areas, and then the Mabel High School.  On April 9, 1947 she married Raymond Pierce in Harmony.  They lived in Canton and then Spring Grove where Marlis worked for the Mansfield, and Argus companies.  They then moved to Mabel where she worked at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home for thirty years before retiring in 1995.  Raymond passed away on October 22, 1982. 

She was a member of the Mabel First Lutheran Church and enjoyed crocheting, going out to eat, shopping, and reading.

Marlis passed away  Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel at the age of 80.

Marlis is survived by two sons Craig (Linda) of Spring Grove and Tim (Jayne) of West Point, New York; five grandchildren Chad, Melissa, Kris, Holly, and Brittany; great grandchildren Gavin, Samantha, Trysten, Mason, and Ezra; a sister Geri Worden of Spring Grove; nieces and nephews; and close friend and former daughter-in-law Monica Pierce of Mabel.  She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; her parents; a brother Allen; and two sisters LaVonne Hanson and Connie Remick. 

Funeral services will be 1 PM Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Gail Klavetter officiating. Burial will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Thursday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
