Duane was born January 27, 1936 in Amherst Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to Alton and Doris (Capron) McCallson. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War era Veteran. He was united in marriage to Patricia House on October 29, 1960. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, and camping. He retired in 1995, after working 30 years, from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church, and the Mabel American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Duane passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin at the age of 74.
Duane is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia of Brownsville; daughter Terri (Dan) Kotek and granddaughters Amy Kotek and Kelly (Justin ) Fremstad all of Westby, Wisconsin, daughter Keri Thompson of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; a brother Larry of Mabel; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Newburg Methodist Church in rural Mabel with Rev. Jeanne Martin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be 9 – 11 AM Thursday at the church. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting the family with arrangements.
