Vernon was born May 10, 1920 in Nordness, Iowa to George and Aletta (Strand) Wright. He attended school in Decorah and Spring Grove. In 1945 he married Bayonne Bergsgaard in Spring Grove. They farmed in the Dorchester, Iowa area for a short time before moving to the farm in Burr Oak where they have resided since. He was a member of the Burr Oak Lutheran Church and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He enjoyed airplanes and had previously had his pilot’s license, and also enjoyed boating.
Vernon passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 at his home at the age of 90.
Vernon is survived by his wife Bayonne of Burr Oak; a daughter Dawn (Charlie) Hewitt of Spring Grove; a son Greg (Shirley) of Burr Oak; a brother Calvin Wright of Dorchester; six grandchildren Brenda (Dan) Leibold, Tracy Joe McCabe, Heather (Jerry) Frey, Naycia (Mike) Dotzler, Twyla (Wade) Marlow, and Tyler Wright; two step-grandchildren Dawn Hoppe and Michelle (Scott) Saltou; and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Maxine Gunderson and Norma Hopperstad.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, Iowa with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Sunday, November 7th at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church. |
