Carol Lucille Halverson, 98, of Canton, Minnesota, passed away at the Harmony Healthcare Center in Harmony on July 8, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Garness Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Mabel. Friends may call at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday evening or one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Carol was born January 25, 1912 in rural Canton to Chris and Mary (Knutson) Johnson. She graduated from Canton High School in 1930. On July 11, 1931, she married Sabert Halverson at the church parsonage in Spring Grove. Sabert died on September 22, 1993. Carol was a homemaker until her children were grown. She later worked for many years at HECO in Harmony. She was an active member of Garness Trinity Lutheran Church and participated in WELCA and circle groups. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge for over 30 years.
Carol enjoyed making quilts for her children and grandchildren. She also made many beautiful pieces of hardanger needlework which she gave as gifts and donated to the church bazaar. She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had homemade cookies for visitors. She was able to remain in her own home until December 2009.
She is survived by three sons, Daryl (Marion) Halverson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Donald Halverson of Houston, Texas, and Darwin (Inez) Halverson of Rochester and a sister, Sylvia Maust, of Casa Grande, Arizona. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Willard and Howard, sister Frances , son Duane, daughter Delayne, granddaughter Sharon, and great-granddaughter Lily.
