HELEN CATHERINE DOTZENROD

June 12, 1915 - April 1, 2010

After a full and rich life Helen Johnson Dotzenrod of Canton died on April 1, 2010 at Heritage Grove of Harmony.

Helen Catherine Haakenstad was born June 12, 1915 to Herbert and Clara Haakenstad.  She graduated Valedictorian from Mabel High School in 1933.  After attending Preston Normal she taught in the Olson School.  In 1936 Helen married Leslie Johnson and they farmed in the Prosper area.  Two children were born to this union- Kathleen Ann and Richard Leslie.  Leslie Johnson died in 1960.

Helen taught 34 years in the Mabel-Canton area – 25 of them teaching 6the graders at the Canton School.  Her Associate and Bachelor degrees were earned from Winona State College.

In 1968 Helen married Clair Dotzenrod and gained five loving stepchildren.

Helen lived a bountiful life teaching, traveling, volunteering, directing plays, caring for the Mitson House Library and Museum, serving as Treasurer, Moderator, and Clerk of the Presbyterian Session, and also serving on the Canton City Council.

She will be missed by her daughter Kathleen and husband LeRoy, son Richard and wife Donivee, Grandsons Michael and wife Tina, Randy and wife SuAnne, Jon and wife Jen, and Daniel, Great Grandchildren Joshua, Katie, and Jack, Sisters Elaine Beverly, Dolores, and Shirley, Sister-in-law Gen, Stepchildren Marian, Diana, Ron, Meridith, Phyllis, and spouses, plus many loving nieces and nephews, friends and former students.  She was preceded in death by her two husbands, two sisters, and a brother.

An Open House – Fellowship and Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, April 13th from 7 – 9 p.m.  at the Canton Presbyterian Church in honor of Helen.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 14th at 11 a.m. at the Canton Presbyterian church .  Lunch will be served following the service.  A private family interment will be held at a later date.
