Cyrus was born June 23, 1913 in Lanesboro, Minnesota to Olaf and Nora (Quam) Hanson. On August 10, 1940 he married Marian Stennes in Lanesboro. They lived in Choice for over sixty years where they were known for their Christmas light display and having the annual “Choice Opry” in their shed. He was also a 4-H leader and Fire Warden for several years. He was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, and enjoyed dancing and taking drives throughout the area.
Cyrus passed away Friday, September 11, 2009 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel at the age of 96.
Cyrus is survived by his daughter-in-law Darlene Hanson of Rochester, Minnesota and a niece. He was preceded in death by his wife Marian, a son Merlin, a brother Orval Hanson and a sister Pearl Jenson.
Funeral services will be 11AM Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 Monday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the Church. |
