ROBERT C. FOSSUM

February 28, 1929 - June 21, 2009

Robert was born February 28, 1929  in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Thor and
Irene (Bryant) Fossum.  He attended school in Spring Grove.  In 1948 at the age of 16, he enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1954, mostly in Germany. He was trained as a mechanic and at the time of his discharge he had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class.  After returning home from the Army he worked hard rebuilding transmissions in Brooten, Minnesota. On December 23, 1961 he married Joyce Danielson in Brooten.  They moved to Harmony, Minn. in 1963 where he started Fossum's Transmission.  In 1974 he moved the business to Canton where they have resided ever since. Robert was a member of the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church, a continuous member of the Harmony American Legion for 53 years and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Robert was an expert story teller and had a quick wit, as many can attest to!  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, mowing, visiting friends and neighbors, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Robert passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his home at the age of 80.

Robert is survived by his wife Joyce; three sons Todd (Annette) of
Chanhassen, Minn., Tim (special friend Tracy Mietzner) of Canton, and Troy
(Bonnie) of Becker, Minn.; five grandchildren Alex, Ashley, Adam, Cassidy,
and Jeffrey; a brother Arden of Mabel; two sisters Janice Soland of Pine
Island  and Doris (Darrell) McCabe of Lanesboro; and several nieces and
nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Thor and Irene; five
brothers Donald, Ardell, Curtis, Glenn, and Richard; and a sister Dorothy.

Scotland Presbyterian Church in Canton with Pastor Amy Perkins officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 PM Wednesday, June 24 at the Mengis Funeral
Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.  Burial will be
in the Greenfield Cemetery with military honors from the Harmony American
Legion.
