JEAN F. STORLIE

November 26, 1956 - February 8, 2009

Jean was born November 26, 1956 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Glenn and Corrine (Haakenson) Hagen.  She attended the Mabel-Canton Schools graduating in 1974.  She attended Rochester Community College where she played French Horn in the concert band.  Jean lived in Decorah from 1979 to 1987 and worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aid at Aase Haugen Home.  On September 11, 1987 she married Fred Storlie and moved to the Irish Ridge north of Mabel.  Jean worked several years in the Dietary Department at Tweeten Health Care in Spring Grove. 

Jean enjoyed music of all kinds, playing piano and guitar, and was active in Scheie church music.  She also enjoyed going for walks, collecting, reading, and spending time with family and friends.  She was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church and WELCA.

Jean passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family after a yearlong battle with cancer at the age of 52.

Jean is survived by her husband Fred;  a daughter Sara Hagen of Raleigh, North Carolina; a son Sam at home; her mother Corrine Hagen of Harmony;  three sisters Gloria (Dave) Crumm of Grand Rapids, Minn., Diane (Richard) Severe of Eagan, Minn., and Carol (Eddy) Atwell of Decorah, Iowa, Niece Hannah Hagen-Atwell and nephew Haaken Hagen-Atwell both of Decorah; and the family dog, Shadow.
Jean was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Donald.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 Friday, February 13 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
