Lelah was born October 31, 1928 in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to Julius and Julia (Timmerdahl) Brenna. She attended the Hesper Number 6 "Rotvold" School. On July 25, 1946 she was united in marriage to Melvin O. Folstad. They farmed in Hesper Township until moving into Mabel
in 1971. Lelah then began working in the kitchen at the Green Lea Manor
Nursing Home in Mabel and worked there until she retired in 1990. Lelah was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church and the Ladies Group, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Good Tyme Quilters, and the QT Quilting Club. She enjoyed helping her children, being around others especially her grandchildren, scrapbooking, and making lefse.
Lelah passed away Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel, Minnesota at the age of 80.
Lelah is survived by eight children Joyce (Lyle) Bjerke of Highlandville, Iowa, Marvin (Linda) of Hesper, Leslie (Nancy) of Hesper, Mary (Les) Myhre of Mabel, Dean (Kim) of La Crescent, Minnesota, Sonya
(Jerry) Gunderson of Baxter, Iowa, Colleen (Kermit) Meyer of Eitzen, Minnesota, and Gerald (Elsa) of Hesper; 23 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister Lillian Dewing of Bend, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin and her parents Julius and Julia Brenna.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa with the Rev. Matt Larson, officiating. Burial will be in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 Friday, November 21st at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
