Betty was born December 24, 1929 in Prosper, Minnesota to Clarence and Gladys (Vickerman) Starks. She grew up in the "Big Woods" area of Fillmore
County and attended the Newburg and Mabel Schools. She moved to Rochester and then St. Paul and Minneapolis where she was married to Al Chester in 1958. They later divorced. In 1963 she married Richard Morin, Sr. They lived in the Twin Cities area until 1976 when they divorced and Betty moved back to the Mabel and Canton areas. In 2006 she became a resident of the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel. Betty was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton and enjoyed volunteering at the church and at the Harmony Nursing Home, reading, crafts, watching movies, and rummage sales.
Betty passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel at the age of 78.
Betty is survived by two daughters Marilyn (Will) Bartsch of the Twin Cities and Donna Reese of Stewartville, Minnesota; four sons Cliff Chester of Pine City, Minnesota, Mike Chester of Waconia, Minnesota, Mark (Terri) Morin of Canton, and Richard "Richie" Morin, Jr. of Spring Valley, Minnesota; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters Irene
(Donald) Brumm of Decorah, Iowa, and Helen Ortman of Winona, Minnesota; a brother Charles Starks of California; and her second husband Richard Morin, Sr. of Mabel. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Debbie Chester, an infant daughter, and an infant son.
Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, Minnesota with Father Donald P. Schmitz
officiating. Visitation will be 4 - 7 PM Thursday, June 26th at the
Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel with a prayer service at 7 pm, and one hour prior to services at the church.
