Marian was born May 22, 1914 in Preble Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to John and Minnie (Hagen) Stennes. She attended the Tawney School and on August 10, 1940 married Cyrus Hanson in Lanesboro. They lived in Choice for over sixty years where they were known for their Christmas lights and having the annual “Choice Opry” in their shed. She worked for Rush Products for many years and was a longtime 4-H leader. She was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, and enjoyed dancing and entertaining family and friends. Marian passed away Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa at the age of 94. Marian is survived by her husband Cyrus of Mabel; a son Merlin and his wife Darlene of Rochester, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers Harry, Earl, and Jerome. Funeral services will be 11AM Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 Thursday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the Church. Memorials are preferred to the Scheie Improvement Fund or the Scheie Mission Fund.
