ARNOLD "BUDDY" BENSON

October 21, 1925 - June 11, 2008

Buddy was born October 21, 1925 in Norway Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to Orlando and Tena (Dahle) Benson. The family moved to Hettinger, North Dakota where they farmed for twelve years before moving back to Minnesota.  He attended rural schools then joined the United States Navy in
1944 and served in the South Pacific on the USS Olmsted.   On April 16, 1948
he married Eunice Foltz at the parsonage in Mabel.  He farmed in the Mabel area and also worked for the City of Mabel until moving to Spring Valley, Minnesota in 1964 where they operated the Four Winds restaurant.  In 1977 they started farming near Sheldon, Wisconsin until 1987 when they retired and moved back to Mabel.  Eunice passed away January 11, 2000. He was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, drives in the country, and playing cards.

Buddy passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at his home in Mabel at the age of 82.

He is survived by two sons Gary (Sandy) of Mason City, Iowa and Kyle
(Cheryl) of Miami, Florida; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three sisters Lorraine Peterson and Mary (Curtis) Bakke both of Mabel, and Lois (Dale) Honsey of Lanesboro; and two brothers Larry and Jimmie both of Mabel. He was preceded in death by his wife Eunice; an infant son Gerald; and three brothers Robert, Lavern, and Donald.

Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and VFW.

Visitation will be from 4 - 7 Friday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the Church.
