JARVIS S. PETERSON

January 4, 1917- May 15, 2008

Jarvis was born January 4, 1917 in Newburg Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to John and Stella (Forde) Peterson.  He was baptized by Rev.
Frost at the Garness Lutheran Church in rural Mabel. He attended the Mabel Public Schools and was confirmed at the Mabel First Lutheran Church.  During World War II he served in the European Theater of Operations in the United States Army Air Force where he was an airplane mechanic and specialized in propellers. On February 14, 1946 he married Lorraine Benson at the Mabel Lutheran Parsonage.  He graduated from the DeVry Technical Institute of Chicago.  For 33 years he maintained the roads for Newburg Township until retiring in 1984.  Jarvis was a member of the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 299, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He enjoyed his family, woodworking, fishing, and friends.

Jarvis passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin at the age of 91.

Jarvis is survived by his wife Lorraine of Mabel; two daughters Joan
(Donald) Garness of Mabel and Linda (Craig) Pierce of Spring Grove, Minnesota; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents John and Stella; a sister Naeda Kiesau Adams; an infant brother; and an infant grandson.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Reverend Mary Waudby officiating.
Burial will be in the Garness Cemetery with military rites by the Mabel American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Visitation will be 4 – 7 P.M.

Sunday, May 18, at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and also one hour prior to services at the church.
